NFC-500S-UL Photoelectric smoke detector consists of an IR emitter and Photodiode receiver, the emitter send a very narrow pulsed ray which scattered if it  collides with smoke particles inside the sampling chamber, the photodiode receiver detect some of scattered beams which initiate the fire signal to the conventional panel.
